This semester at school exists out of a few projects which are listed below. 

Individual project

At the beginning of this semester we started with an individual project. My individual project was an small video game where you have to score a goal. 

Why scoring a goal? 

Nowadays little children are told to just play soccer. But if you learn them how to kick a ball first. They have the basics and they become more aware of this. This will have a small improvement at that moment but a big improvement for in the future. 

My vision in this project is that we can get children more aware of what they're doing instead of doing something.

Prototyping

Prototyping in this semester is else than usual. Not just a drawing on a paper, but  actually a product that you can touch. I've created a prototype, which simulates how to kick a ball. This product can show that if you kick a ball in a specific way, the ball will follow.

End result

At the realization phase, I used unity to create this game. I've set up a goal with a wall behind so ball comes back after. A ball and a player of course. The user or also called gamer that plays this game, has to shoot. Before shooting the needs to place his self in a good position so the ball will go in. This will show kids nowadays how to place and kick the ball. Becoming aware of what they are doing.

What is Make it Fit!

This project was about an camera which measures your body for an online product(dress, shirt, pants, etc). 

How did I came up with this?

One time my mom ordered an dress from a web shop and she couldn't wait to try the dress. Sounds a little familiar I think that a lot of people experienced it once. And when the package came in she was really happy and couldn't wait to try her dress. She tried the dress and it didn't fit. So she was frustrated and mad about it. What do you need to do if it doesn't fit? 

Throw it in the closet and wait if it's going to fit later?(it's probably never going to fit)

Give it away as a present?

Or send it back?

Of course the third option but this takes time, effort and money to achieve. Which frustrates you more,  because you want to wear the ordered dress to the birthday or party you're going to.  

Why Make it FIT?

This because, at the moment there is too much wasting. When ordering an product and it doesn't fit. You are not satisfied and need to return. Some people throw it in the closet for the coming years or give it away.

Most of the time it goes back and the buyer gets a new size product. So the products travel twice which uses space, uses paper, uses fuel, uses electricity.

That's why we came up with Make it FIT!

Make it FIT for:
- The customers
- The companies
- The eco system

Bring back the happy customer, the company and the eco system!

The result

The result was showed at the exhibition on 12 November 2021.  To realize this project we used processing and an online size chart to get suggestions for different brands.

I used a big screen and the Kinect V2 to give a demo. I've got a lot of feedback on how to improve this when presenting or giving a demo. 

Things I could do to improve is set up a nice user friendly user interface, creating a standing dot on the ground, this for using the camera.

Analysis Phase

In this phase we managed to analyse a lot with the 5Ws questions.

- Who has encountered the problem?

A online fashion shopping customer.

- What is the problem?
The customer ordered different pieces of clothing and it didn't fit.

- When and where did the problem occur?
After the customer paid for the items and received it at home. 

- Why did it happen?
The customers body measurements are larger or smaller than the ordered items.

- How can it be fixed and be improved?
When the customer orders a item with his/hers body measurement it will be guaranteed that it is going to fit on first try. This can be done with a camera which measures the body. 

- What do we need to realize this?
- A camera which measures the body, in our case the Kinect v2
- A clothing size chart to know which brand size fits you.
- A program which gives you the possibility to do this. In our case that would be Processing. 
- ass last but not least a windows computer with an additional screen where you can see yourself.

Design phase

Going to the design phase we had to think about how it is going to look like. After some self made drawings and brainstorming, we came up with a few sketches. The black box at the sketch is the Kinect v2 and a person in front of the Kinect.

Realizing phase

The realizing phase also the last phase. We started to code in processing. For understanding how the kinect v2 works we used the kinectpv2 library. The library provided different methods to use the kinect v2. We used the skeleton depth map, which basically projects infrared dots on the surface and detects you’re  body. When it detects you’re body, it also automatically detects the joints of the body. We calculated the distance between the joints with the individual coordinates of each joint. 

Take my body for example, the width of the right shoulder minus the left shoulder is 35cm. Now we calculated the width of the joints but we need the  actual width of the shoulder. I know my shoulder width is 45cm, so we’ve multiplied it with 1.3 to get the result we need to have. 

Conclusion duo project

This was a nice project to do and look back to it. We missed some expertise on this subject, but in the end we managed to get the minimum viable product working.

Cliënt project

The cliënt project came from a real cliënt named Greenhouse. Greenhouse is vested in Eindhoven centrum. The assignment was creating a virtual assistent. 

The cliënt project exists out of a virtual receptionist which can takes some tasks from the real receptionist. This means that the virtual receptionist in our case Fiona. Should set appointments, accept packages, alert co-workers for appointments, etc. Ofcourse she couldn't replace the real asisstents, but it can help quicker and do some tasks so the real assistent can do more important tasks.



Cliënt project process

Analysis

In this project we also searched for some answers. These questions we came up with helped a us lot.

- What is a virtual receptionist?
A virtual assistant is an extension of an physical assistant. Take over tasks that can be automated and free up valuable time for the physical assistants.

- What does the assistant
Planning appointments, sending notifications of new appointments and arriving customers, knowing the floor plan, helping with emergency’s, knowing the inventory, accepting packages, etc.

- Why a virtual assistant?
A virtual assistant can do automated tasks a lot quicker than a physical one. This results in freeing up valuable time for the physical assistant.

- What do we need?
Uneeq for the virtual assistant
Google calendar for booking appointments
Dialogflow for different scenarios and conversations

- How does it work?
Dialogflow gives the opportunity to combine the use of uneeq and google calendar. This results in a virtual assistant which can plan in appointments.

- What do we want to achieve?
We want to create a full functional virtual interactive assistant. Which can grow to a holographic assistant.

- Our vision about this
In the future this will be a daily assistant which helps you with all kind of tasks. 

Design

While we  were brainstorming we came up with different ideas to realize this idea. Some ideas more optimistic than realistic, but we came to a conclusion that we had to start with the basics.

After all the brainstorming we started to create a low-fidelity product. Which was fun to do and resulted in a working hologram. 

Realization

In this phase we started do dig further into holograms and we concluded that the technique isn't ready yet to create a virtual interactive assistant hologram. It is definitely possible but there are too  many obstacles to achieve there. 

That is why we went back to the basics and we used Dialogflow, Uneeq and Google calendar to create the assistant on pc. Dialogflow gave the opportunity to connect with Uneeq and Google calendar. This resulted in a fully functional asisstant which could schedule appointments for customers.

After realizing this we also created a video about our vision about this idea. the video shows how the hologram can be used in an emergency situation.

Conclusion of the client project

This was a fun, difficult and educational project for us. In the beginning of the project we were full with motivation and energy. But week after week and obstacle after obstacle our motivation dropped because we were too optimistic for this product. Then we started to realize the technique isn't there yet. What I learned about this project is be optimistic but not too optimistic.
